A Few Firsts

We've been bad about blogging, but that's because we've had a lot of first moments with little Maddie!
  • First road trip to Indianapolis for a half marathon (Daddy could not run in it, but we cheered on the rest of the crew at the finish line...okay, it was actually the beer tent). Maddie was GREAT!
  • First taste of solid food - homemade pea puree. She'll try organic pear puree tomorrow!
  • 6 month checkup - Maddie is now 13 pounds, 6.5 ounces and 25 and a quarter inches long
  • First sitting up by herself
  • She's now taking two bottles of formula with 2 - 3 feedings of breast milk each day
  • We had one night where Maddie yelled for a half hour. We gave her some gripe water and she finally calmed down and went back to sleep. We think her tummy was gassy as we are moving her to formula and "food." One other night she woke in the middle of the night and was really hungry, but went right to bed after getting fed. Every day is a new one!
And the video portion of our program...

Peas please!

Six Months Old!

Hi! I'm Maddie and I'm six months old today!

For Maddie's six month birthday, Mommy and Daddy introduced her to a new food - Brown Rice Cereal. We don't think she liked the flavor too much, but seemed to enjoy the experience!

Formula Woes

Last weekend, Mommy was alone with Maddie on Saturday while Daddy went to a Cubs game. Because we have decided to move Maddie to formula for her daytime feedings, nursing in the morning and evening, Mommy thought it would be a good idea to test drive a bottle of formula. Mommy did a lot of research on which formula to use, and Maddie drank it all up...then threw it all back up! It was so scary that Mommy had a neighbor come over to comfort her (thank you Lisa!). After discussions with Dr. Davis, Maddie has been SLOWLY taking in formula each day and now drinks a full bottle. We had to switch to Similac since the doctor was more familiar with it, but as long as it's okay for Maddie, it's okay for Mommy and Daddy.

Here, Daddy feeds his little princess a bottle of formula while using the new burp cloth and bib that Mommy made with her new sewing machine.

Gadday Mate

Last week we went to the kids' park. Daddy held Maddie on the swing. This was her first time outside and saw many people from the neighborhood.
The Australians, Ted, Ingrid, Joshua, and Natalie came up for an evening at the Freises'. We had the privilege of witnessing Natalie lose a tooth.

This one was funny. Maddie got stuck in this position rolling over and stayed like this for like five minutes. We managed to get out for a while today to feel the warm sun. It is very windy too. Daddy taught Maddie to to "milk the cow" which is performed after a victory in Euchre. We'll learn that next week.
And Happy 29th Birthday Mommy! After getting over the initial shock and fear, she is really liking her new sewing machine.
